Back for a fifteenth year, Twangfest, presented by 88.1 KDHX, is swinging for the fences! The non-profit music festival will bring a group of extremely talented musicians to the friendly confines of the Duck Room at Blueberry Hill from June 8-11, 2011. Twangfest celebrates Americana, rock, soul and roots music in St. Louis.
Announced yesterday via their Twitter feed and Facebook page, headliners for Twangfest include Kelly Willis and Bruce Robison, Robbie Fulks with Nora O’Connor, and The Baseball Project (featuring Steve Wynn, Scott McCaughey, Linda Pitmon & Mike Mills). America’s best baseball fans might realize a slight change there as Mike Mills of R.E.M. will fill in for his longtime band mate Peter Buck on bass for The Baseball Project. Many of the performers also graced the stage at this year’s Twangfest showcase at South By Southwest in Austin. You can check out videos of those performances at the Twangfest Facebook page.
Prior to the shows we’re excited to bring you reviews of the new album by The Baseball Project Volume 2: High and Inside, released March 1 on Yep Roc (something we should have already done) and the upcoming début of Jill Andrews, The Mirror, due June 7. As a note to St. Louis fans, The Baseball Project included a bonus download of two songs if you bought the vinyl copy of their recent album including a song about Cardinals star Albert Pujols titled “El Hombre.”
Twangfest promises that a new and improved website as well as ticket information and friends packs are coming soon! Don’t turn that dial and stay tuned.
