Josh Ritter & the Royal City Band sweat it out at Off Broadway[Live Review for KDHX]

Sweating profusely, but not letting the heat diminish his smile for one second Josh Ritter and the Royal City Band delighted and enthralled the Off Broadway audience last night with an hour and forty minute set of favorites, new songs and covers.

The opener, Yellowbirds, a Brooklyn based trio, impressed with their lush indie pop sounds. Sam Cohen’s tone from his one off guitar brought an interesting twist on the trio’s aesthetic. Certainly a full sound, but without the muscular power of most three piece bands. If we get time we’ll try to fit in a review of their album, The Color released in February 2011.
